The Third Committee during the sixty-first session of the General Assembly had at the top of its agenda the rights of women, children and migrants, as well as an evaluation of the work of the recently established Human Rights Council, and approved a draft resolution naming the right to development as a major goal of this new UN body.
The poor countries have a right to development assistance only if they carry through on their commitment to good governance.
Under that vision, the Internet--rather than being a market-oriented entity controlled by no political body--would be used "to promote the development goals of the Millennium Declaration," particularly "the right to development, as enshrined in the Vienna Declaration.
