The Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation serves as the nexus for the scientific laboratories of the Fisher Center at The Rockefeller University. Despite this variability, Leslie Vosshall and her colleagues of Rockefeller University in New York City reported last year that the protein encoded by a single odor-receptor gene, known as Or83b, works in conjunction with almost every odor receptor in fruit flies. According to project director Nathaniel Heintz, head of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology at The Rockefeller University, New York, GENSAT means that researchers studying degenerative conditions such as Parkinson disease can now have access to gene expression within the brain without having to do their own molecular genetics from scratch. |
