High court orders release of alleged attackers in Chiapas massacre The decision by a five-member panel of the SCJN to order freedom for 29 men accused of the killings in Acteal in December 2007 elicited mixed reactions. The SCJN decision, handed down in mid-October, does not mandate Ruiz's removal from his post. In further explaining the ruling, Justice Olga Sanchez said the SCJN concluded that taped telephone conversations implicating Marin in the kidnapping and detention of Cacho could not be used as evidence because the calls were recorded without a legal order. |
