On 05/31/06, SUNW outlined a plan approved by its Board of Directors in which it will be lowering costs, accelerate profitability and, as a part of both, implementing a workforce reduction of up to 5,000 employees. At last check, SUNW was down more than five percent after it announced that it was trimming its workforce between 4,000 and 5,000 employees. On Friday, SUNW announced that it cut 200 jobs from its scalable systems group (SSG), the division responsible for servers that run on its Sparc chip architecture. |
