Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, to a mother who is a figure-skating choreographer and a father who is a skating coach, the family moved to the United States in 1989, when Anton was 6months old.
Co-sponsored by Bard College, Smolny College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and its Gagarin Center for Human Rights, and Saint Petersburg State University (SPbU), the conference brought together for intensive dialogue and discussion, over 300 participants and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), consisting of experts, scholars, activists and practitioners from all over the world.
Humanitarian Action, based in Saint Petersburg, offered the first HIV prevention programs for vulnerable populations in Russia, beginning in 1995, when the government barely acknowledged HIV/AIDS in the country.
