The Scream Trilogy (Wes Craven, 1996-2000) Of the several sci-fi and horror trilogies, Wes Craven's Scream 1, 2 and 3 are by some distance the most interesting.
Then with razor-gloved fiend Freddie Krueger in The Nightmare On Elm Street films, before the hack and slash of the Scream trilogy.
Just over a decade later, the all rounder made fun of the 'slasher' genre he'd helped to create with a new celluloid series and villain - the ghost-masked killer who loved scary movies in the Scream trilogy.
