It's a bit racy but not terribly raunchy, and lively fun to read, with a clear message about learning to discover oneself, reach out to others, and seize the day. His willingness to seize the day was evidenced in his everyday activities. At the end of Saul Bellow's 1956 novel, Seize the Day, fallguy antihero Tommy Wilhelm--broke and out of work, rejected by his venal father and separated from wife and sons--wanders into a church funeral, where he finds himself bent over the open casket of a total stranger. |
