It is the most energetic form of electromagnetic radiation, with a very short wavelength (high frequency). This ranges from the very short wavelength of gamma and X-rays, through the visible light portion of the spectrum, to the infrared, up to radio waves and beyond. The output of an excimer laser is used for writing patterns on semiconductor chips, because the short wavelength can write very fine lines. |
