Procedural justice theory emerged from earlier formulations of social exchange theory (Blau, 1964 Homans, 1974; Thibaut and Kelley, 1967) and equity theory (Adams, 1963). Social exchange theory assumes that people gauge the outcomes of interactions and rationally choose the action that will provide the best result for them based on the track record of past exchanges, shared values and communication strategies. In their book, they place major emphasis on social exchange theory, which explains behavior in terms of seeking rewards and avoiding costs. |
