Broadband connections will allow schools to connect to the internet at speeds of up to 2 Megabits per second (Mbps) -16 times faster than the speeds offered by a single ISDN connection, and up to 40 times faster than a standard dial-up connection. Figuring out connection speeds, whether through a standard dial-up modem connection or a high-bandwidth access method, is further complicated by the fact that many of these methods are asymmetric -- access takes place at different speeds in different directions. The Innobeta product, the Transexpress 4000, enables standard dial-up ATMs to send transactions using IP, said Eric Park, president of Innobeta. |
