Abstract Superior semicircular canal dehiscence (SCD) syndrome is a recognized condition associated with varying degrees of vestibular and auditory dysfunction.
If a patient has a conductive hearing loss and reflexes are present, obtain computed tomography of the temporal bones to rule out superior semicircular canal dehiscence.
In such cases, the presence of an acoustic reflex essentially rules out otosclerosis and points to "cochlear conductive loss" commonly seen in superior semicircular canal dehiscence, large vestibular aqueduct, and Meniere's disease.
