We have developed a combined surgical technique involving traction sutures, the harmonic scalpel, and laryngeal nerve monitoring for the removal of mediastinal goiters. Although they are brief, each chapter provides the reader with a good understanding of each surgical technique and the indications for their use. Preliminary research indicates a new surgical technique eases the symptoms of a Parkinson's-like disease in monkeys and adds to evidence suggesting at least two areas of the brain play a crucial role in this debilitating movement disorder. |
