License suspension or revocation traditionally follows conviction for alcohol-impaired or drunk driving.
Unpaid child support can be enforced by a range of punitive measures, including, (1) cancellation of one's passport; (2) denial or withdrawal of a driver's license; (3) attachment by a support creditor of federal tax refund; (4) attachment of IRA's and 401(k) plans; (5) invasion of spend-thrift trusts; (6) suspension or revocation of professional or occupational licenses; and, (7) publication of one's name as a "Deadbeat most Wanted" listing on radio and TV.
The amendment requires the trial judge to determine that the defendant understands that if he or she pleads guilty or nolo contendere to an offense for which automatic and mandatory driver's license suspension is required to be imposed, the plea may result in suspension or revocation of the defendant's driver's license.
