IFN[alpha]/[beta] induction is also stimulated by the presence of viral RNA and DNA in the endosome through the action of TLR3, TLR7, TLRS, or TLR9 (7). Last year, a research team led by Shizuo Akira of Osaka University in Japan reported that TLR9 helps the human immune system recognize bacterial DNA.
