Fortunately, that's no longer the case; the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999, or TWWIIA, brought important improvements. TWWIIA authorizes MFCUs to review complaints of abuse or neglect relating to board-and-care facilities, including non-Medicaid ones, and to "[act] upon such complaints under the criminal laws of the State" or "[refer] such complaints to other State agencies for action. 2001; Drake, McHugo, Becker, Anthony, & Clark, 1996; Peretti, 1974); medications that better control symptoms, allowing consumers to assume work roles; laws that protect consumers from discrimination and tie funding streams to work outcomes (ADA PL 101-336; TWWIIA PL 106-170); pressure from the consumer movement (Steele & Berman, 2001); and employers' willingness to diversify their workforce. |
