Manette and Sydney Carton whom Dickens wrote about in A Tale of Two Cities, but instead the state of American high schools. Director Fernando Meirelles tells a tale of two cities in this film about Rio de Janeiro slums, where the poor have been cut off from metropolitan services and abandoned to the murderous gangs that rule and rob them. Rather than a tale of two cities, this is a tale of two DM packages from the same city, Boston, both arriving in the mail on the same day, both in white 9 X 12-inch window envelopes, and both soliciting subscriptions to health newsletters. |
