Mark Agius and his colleagues at the University of California, Davis, are conducting a Society-funded clinical trial to test the safety and effectiveness of smoked marijuana and oral tetrahydrocannabinol, a cannabis derivative, to treat spasticity in people with MS. But even small doses of another component, tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, produced temporary psychotic symptoms in people, including hallucinations and paranoid delusions, doctors said. When tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) was given to mice it swamped one of these compounds, anandamide, which regulates the early stages of pregnancy. |
