The program areas addressed include the regular Food Stamp program, programs operating in lieu of food stamps, The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, Community Food Projects, the Seniors FarmersE Market Nutrition Program, initiatives to provide fresh fruit and vegetable in schools, and newly proposed nutrition and health promotion or support projects.
The remaining 11 programs, which account for about 1 percent of spending, have specific targets such as the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Programs (approximately $41 million) and various commodity programs such as The Emergency Food Assistance Program ($250 million appropriated for FY 2009).
We urge you to develop a final bill that both retains the strength of the Senate's nutrition title provisions and the structure of the House title which makes permanent improvements to Food Stamps and the Emergency Food Assistance Program," the senators write.
