At the very noisy end of the spectrum is the MiG-29OVT, this is a thrust vectoring technology demonstration prototype for a possible later MiG fighter product such as the MiG-35. Code-named ``Walrus,'' the new airship would fly using a combination of lighter-than-air gas - like conventional blimps or World War I zeppelins - and aerodynamic lift generated by the craft's shape, as well as thrust vectoring. The power of its jet engine is diverted through a set of four thrust vectoring nozzles, allowing the Harrier pilot to take off or land vertically, as well as having the potential to suddenly change direction in flight (vectoring in forward flight (VIFF)). |
