TUR planning offers an assessment framework that is often used by toxic use reduction advocates in the state of Massachusetts. Toxic chemicals are defined as 756 chemicals land compounds listed in various so-called Toxic Use Reduction (TUR) laws and include such terrifying things as aluminum, ammonia, benzene, chlorine, chromium, copper, phenol, silver, styrene, vinyl chloride, and various nickel and zinc compounds. Since 1990, TURI has provided toxic use reduction certification training to over 1,000 industry professionals, awarded 67 community grants and nine Environmental Management Systems grants--all to raise awareness about toxic chemicals, reduce chemical use and introduce safer alternatives. |
