He and others also bought acetone — nail polish remover — and other ingredients that can be used to make a powerful and highly unstable explosive called triacetone triperoxide, or TATP. The Justice Department said the case was unrelated to another suspected terrorism plot in New York, where an Afghan-born man was charged with conspiring to launch a bombing attack in the United States using chemicals that form triacetone triperoxide. Police found that the injured 13-year-old had caused the explosion by igniting a tissue fuse attached to two plastic bottles containing triacetone triperoxide (TATP), the Sunday Morning Post reported. |
