ON JUNE 12, 2004, 500 PEOPLE gathered in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina, to witness the swearing in of the seven members of the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission. 9-billion settlement package that provides a common experience payment to all former students of Indian residential schools, a process allowing those who suffered sexual or physical abuse to get compensation, funding for healing programs, as well as the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The authors have personally worked and lived through issues such as ethnic cleansing in the Balkans and Africa, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa, and the Clinton impeachment hearings. |
