Whether a classification system uses the UHDDS is obviously a matter of considerable practical importance, because other data are not routinely available to either test a system or set weights. The UHDDS has served as a foundation for developing diagnosis-related groups (DRGs), comprehensive longitudinal records, risk-adjusted measures of outcomes, outcomes management, utilization review, and peer review, which are discussed later in this article. |
