Since the technology was first commercialized in 1990, Honeywell UOP has commissioned 27 Oleflex units for on-purpose propylene and isobutylene production.
The project includes a 50,000 barrels per day (bpd)RFCC complex with ethylene and propylene recovery, and a 24,000 bpd Honeywell UOP Selectfining unit to produce low-sulfur gasoline.
Technologies to be provided by Honeywell UOP will include crude and vacuum distillation units, designed by Houston-based Process Consulting Services, for distilling crude oil into various fractions.
During the past six decades, Honeywell UOP has been instrumental in the progress of some of the region's largest refining units including Ras Tanura and Jeddah Oil refineries in Saudi Arabia, Shuaiba refinery in Kuwait and Ruwais Refinery in Abu Dhabi.
Rather, it is the qualitative nature of the expenditure with respect to the related UOP that controls.
is seeing an increase in on-purpose propylene production because of the abundance of low-cost propane from shale gas," says Pete Piotrowski, senior vice president and general manager of Honeywell's UOP Process Technology and Equipment business unit.
As a result of the deal, UOP can now offer a boosted suite of solutions for the removal of contaminants from natural gas and the recovery of high-value natural gas liquids for petrochemicals and fuel, Honeywell said.
UOP LLC, headquartered in Des Plaines, Illinois, USA, is a leading international supplier and licensor of process technology, catalysts, adsorbents, process plants, and consulting services to the petroleum refining, petrochemical, and gas processing industries.
To date, Honeywell's UOP has provided more than 900 Polybed PSA systems worldwide.
The plant is to utilise UOP C3 Oleflex process technology to convert propane to propylene, a substance used in the production of materials including films and packaging, and the UOP Q-Max and UOP Phenol process technologies will be integrated to convert cumene to phenol, a building block for materials like plastic and nylon.
To date, Honeywell's UOP and Foster Wheeler have designed and licensed over 70 SDA units, ranging in size from 7,000 to 48,000 barrels per day.
UOP and KFUPM have signed a five-year agreement that will allow university professors and researchers to collaborate with company scientists on catalyst development and processes for aromatics production.
