There is no specific mention of the type of anesthesia used for the thyroid surgeries in the paper by Misiakos et al, (1) presumably most were done under general anesthesia. Both lesions were completely excised under general anesthesia without the need for preliminary tracheostomy. By comparison, traditional laryngeal surgical procedures performed in the operating room of a hospital under general anesthesia can cost the patient two days away from their daily routine, especially in cases where an overnight stay in the hospital is required. |
