As estrogen levels decrease, the lining of the vagina and urethra becomes thin and friable, resulting in frequency of urination, frequent getting up at night to void, and unintended loss of urine--all symptoms of vaginal atrophy. These products are approved therapies for relief from moderate to severe hot flashes and symptoms of vulvar and vaginal atrophy. Entitled "The role of local vaginal estrogen for treatment of vaginal atrophy in postmenopausal women: 2007 position statement of The North American Menopause Society," the document was developed by an Editorial Board of five clinicians and researchers expert in this area of women's health, then approved by the NAMS Board of Trustees. |
