To the Editor: Virus-associated hemophagocytic syndrome (VAHS) is a fulminant disorder associated with systemic viral infection and is characterized pathologically by the proliferation of hemophagocytic histiocytes in the lymphoreticular tissues.
Virus-associated hemophagocytic syndrome is a fulminant disorder associated with systemic viral infection and characterized pathologically by multiple-organ infiltration of hemophagocytic histiocytes into the lymphoreticular tissues.
In 1979, HLH was described in a cohort of patients who had serologic evidence of recent viral infections (38), and virus-associated hemophagocytic syndrome was proposed as a distinct clinical entity.
