Tests of the Cultivit concept, conducted by Applied Plant Research department at the Dutch Wageningen Agricultural University, have had positive results of improved yields of 90% to 150% in nematode-infested sand and clay soils, compared to untreated fields. Scientists at Wageningen Agricultural University, (PO Box 8129, 6700 EV Wageningen, The Netherlands) are developing a general technique for quantifying the effects of microbial interactions. In the April 13 NATURE, Madeleine Beekman, now at the University of Sheffield in England, and her colleagues at Wageningen Agricultural University in the Netherlands give the first detailed account of Cape conquests in experimental hives of European bees. |
