Eligible studies were selected from PubMed/Medline, Cochrane Library, EmBase, LILACS, Academic Search Premier, Biological Abstracts, ISI Web of Science, and the African Index Medicus.
Their selection was based on the number of votes an article got in a survey, the number of citations listed on the Web of Science, and whether or not it was named article of the year when it was published.
An initial 11,000 published papers, identified through PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and AGRICOLA, were screened and 3,000 of the most relevant published works were evaluated in detail under the direction of Dr.
