As the Gulf Coast was being overwhelmed by Hurricane Katrina on 31 August 2005, the NIEHS Worker Education and Training Program (WETP), its awardees, and its National Clearinghouse for Worker Safety and Health Training developed a PowerPoint presentation that covered all of the pertinent government guidance available about safety and health hazards following the destruction caused by this hurricane.
The NIEHS Worker Education and Training Program (WETP), has developed materials specifically tailored to hurricane responders, including a user friendly "pocket guide," which offers health and safety tips to protect those helping others.
One of these, the Worker Education and Training Program, offers a PowerPoint presentation for cleanup workers titled Protecting Yourself While Helping Others, developed jointly by the NIEHS and other federal agencies to guide those responding to the storms of 2005.
