The workshop was conducted to shed light on unpunished crimes against journalists as according to the International Press Institutes annual World Press Freedom Review, Pakistan became the second deadliest place for journalists during the year 2008.
During the meeting, Taiwan, which is hailed in the institute's latest World Press Freedom Review publication as having one of the freest presses in Asia, was recognized for its importance in the Asia-Pacific region following Hong Kong's handover to China in 1997.
