Rifkind, a New York-bred music and marketing impresario whose clients have ranged from Nike and Levi's to the Wu Tang Clan, is the creative force behind a new cable channel slated to debut in August that will be devoted to hip-hop music and urban trends. Writer-director James Toback's noisy and boisterous take on current race relations--and the romance with African-American culture--deserves note if only because he got much of the Wu Tang Clan to show up on the set at the same time. To date, the segment has featured an eclectic group of prominent New Yorkers, including Moby, Didi Conn, Joe Franklin, Sonia Manzano from Sesame Street , Masta Killa from the Wu Tang Clan, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and musician Nellie McKay. |
