Scientists at Xerox Research Centre Europe (XRCE) have developed document imaging technology for mobile phones that will evolve them into portable document scanners and can, ultimately, turn mobile phones into document service devices.
Current tools classify or "tag" either text or images so they can be processed; but until now no one has combined the two effectively, according to Marco Bressan, a computer scientist who led the research team at Xerox Research Centre Europe.
In June at the La Baule World Investment Conference in France, Xerox was presented an award for the innovative research being conducted at the Xerox Research Centre Europe.
