Here are some names associated with creatures that bore similarities to the wodewose: vedi of Croatia, basajaun in Spain, sasquatch in Canada, yeren of China, and almas of Mongolia, yowie of Australia, yeti of Tibet and Nepal, and many others.
In Nepal he's a Yeti, in Peru; Duende, in Japan; Higabon, in Australia a Yowie and here in Wales Brenin Llwyd (Grey King).
Australia's Yowie, a 10-foot-tall ape man, is also sought after; those pursuing it note that ``he's a master of his own habitat'' as the reason for their inability to get a bead on it, rather than, say, its nonexistence.
