00 Hardcover QC611 Yttrium barium copper oxide superconductors (YBCOs) were the first materials that could superconduct above the boiling point of nitrogen.
Using a laser in a vacuum, the Oak Ridge team vaporized a mixture of powders of the superconductive compound yttrium barium copper oxide (YBCO) and of barium zirconate, which doesn't superconduct.
In 1995 a Los Alamos team developed a method of depositing a superconducting ceramic known as yttrium barium copper oxide, or YBCO, on inexpensive nickel alloy tape by first applying a buffer layer of cubic zirconia.
