At the decision height, I saw our airspeed bleed all the way down to 20 knots.
They were given a missed-approach procedure before each approach, and on two of the eight practice trials they were required to fly a missed approach because of a wind shear warning or reduced visibility below decision height.
This change to the allowed LPV decision height is reflective of the evolving TERPS criteria used to develop satellite-based approaches.
During any PAR if the runway environment is not in sight when the pilot BARALT indicates the DH, should the pilot wave off immediately or wait to make the decision until the approach controller verbalizes "at decision height?" During a typical 90 KIAS instrument approach, the amount of time between the BARALT indicating the DH, and the approach controller verbalizing "at decision height" is about six seconds, or nearly one-fourth of a mile of aircraft travel.
The Kollsman EVS is well suited for Next Generation airspace satellite based operations, such as WAAS, LAAS, SBAS, RNP, and RNAV, by providing a means to continue descent below decision height at all airports regardless of infrastructure and weather conditions.
Altitude corrections should be made to all approach altitudes inside the final approach fix to include decision heights, decision altitudes and minimum decent altitudes (at -35 Celsius with a Height Above Terrain (HAT) of 200 feet, you will have to add 50 feet to your published decision height on the approach plate).
In this manner, the landing operation can be conducted with the decision height defined as the point where the pilot must see the runway environment on the HUD using conventional instrument approach procedures.
These days, you can expect the same descent angle from an ILS, LPV or LNAV/VNAV approach, i.e., those procedures with a decision height or altitude.
Military minimums are adjacent to civilian mins in brackets and use visibility and decision height (AGL).
We were on final approach to decision height on my third approach when the GCA controller asked us to switch to tower.
This will enable pilots to approach the runway at a lower altitude compared with the current Category I decision height, allowing landings to occur in lower cloud conditions.
The RAD-40 is a panel-mounted digital display that offers a selectable Decision Height and includes five additional trip points, all with discrete outputs - from 100 to 1000 feet - which can be used to control an audible tone or to interface with third party equipment.
