HCT will offer an applied
diploma in engineering technology with majors in chemical, electrical, mechanical and instrumentation and control.
A report by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEing) reveals the progress of the age 14-19
Diploma in Engineering. Professor Matthew Harrison, the director of education programme at Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng), compiled the diploma report seven months after its launch.
They will also hear presentations on engineering careers and the benefits of the national
Diploma in Engineering launched last year.
"We would like to see a situation where, when a pupil decides they want to do a
diploma in engineering they will have two equal choices.
The
Diploma in Engineering is designed to deliver a workforce that is ready to meet the demands of industry and this new qualification is critical in developing the next generation of engineers."
The buzz isn't just because they're learning how to use lathes, drills and laser cutting machines but because they're the among the first pupils in the city to do a
diploma in engineering.
Preferences also followed traditional gender roles in some areas: 78% of boys but only 11% of girls interested in a
diploma in engineering ( 84% of girls, but 4% of boys, hair and beauty.
