The City of Thunder Bay and the railway had been awaiting word if the Supreme Court of Canada would hear the railway's case over a century-old contractual obligation to maintain and keep open the bridge, which connects the city with neighbouring
Fort William First Nation.
An additional $5.6M is earmarked for the modernization of the planer line at the company's Thunder Bay sawmill, located on
Fort William First Nation land, as well as $5.4M to optimize its Atikokan, Ignace and Thunder Bay sawmills.
Chief Kelly LaRocca of Scugog First Nation and Chief Georjann Morriseau of
Fort William First Nation brought the resolution forward at the All Ontario Chiefs Assembly held in Toronto in June.
