Gosip is a suite, or stack, of protocols based on the OSI (open systems interconnection) model, which the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) updates as necessary to incorporate additional standards.
Gosip Version 3 has just been released for public comment.
FTS2000 will lead the way to implementation of Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) by fostering development of OSI-based applications as defined by the government's OSI standard: Government Open Systems Interconnection Profile (
GOSIP).
In open systems, the Fed has taken the lead by mandating GOSIP as a Federal Information Processing Standard.
To accommodate ongoing efforts on OSI standards, GOSIP will be implemented in phases, each phase taking on additional standards.
In other standards news, Version 1
GOSIP became mandatory for new government OSI applications this month, Shukri Wakid, director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, told the group.
