As a signatory, Bangladesh is committed to phasing out hydro chlorofluorocarbons (
HCFCs) and other ozone depleting substances.
'The proposed project is designed to address a specific reduction target (i.e., 2020 35 percent
HCFC consumption reduction target and 40 percent by 2021) in accordance with the agreed phase out schedule with the Multilateral Fund,' documents stated.

He highlighted that although Pakistan does not manufacture any of the Ozone Depleting Substances, the country has a strict regulatory regime to check imports of these substances, with a system of licensing and quotas for import of
HCFCs in place.
Detailed discussions were held on the
HCFCs control and role of customs to curb illegal trade was also discussed.
"Both groups of CFC and
HCFC chemicals are greenhouse gases which contribute to climate change," said DENR.
"We understand why it would happen as 75 per cent of
HCFCs are used for air conditioning, which is needed in this part of the world."
Bahrain also plans to reduce
HCFCs by 10 per cent in 2015, by 67.5 per cent by 2025 and by 97.5 per cent by 2030.
The workshop discussed the removal of
HCFCs and the quota system in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as part of the Kingdom of Bahrain's obligations towards the Montreal Protocol namely curbing, restricting the importing of
HCFCs or rather R-22 substance which used in cooling and air-conditioning systems in the Kingdom.
Paje further said the country's import of
HCFC products will be reduced by 10 per cent from the base level of 2,644 tonnes to 2,3796 tonnes by 2015 and then by 35 per cent to 1,718.6 tonnes by 2020.
"From next year, the ministry will ban the import of products which contain
HCFC. The ministry has in the meantime come up with programmes targeted at key partners including suppliers and service providers, amongst others, as part of the phasing out programme.
