In order to raise the abstraction-level of design descriptions, an HDL based on a functional programming language such as Haskell can provide new design abstractions with
higher-order functions and polymorphism [1].
Here, F is a
higher-order function because applying it to the function D returns function D.
Several abstract machines have been used for lazy evaluation of
higher-order function application, notably: the S-K reduction machine [Turner 1979], the Gmachine [Johnsson 1984], the three-instruction machine [Wray and Fairbairn 1989], and the spineless tagless G-machine [Peyton Jones and Salkild 1989].
The cerebral cortex is a specific area of the brain responsible for many important
higher-order functions, including language, information processing, and memory.
Tulane Medical School clinical neuropsychologist Mendoza and behavioral neurologist Foundas team up to provide an in-depth overview of
higher-order functions, their anatomical and neurochemical substrates, pathology, and theories of functional brain organization.
In the third trimester,
higher-order functions are most affected.
These
higher-order functions exert downward control over strictly electrical impulsive, "micro-deterministic" brain activities.
The MRI scans showed huge differences in activity in the frontal lobe of the brain - the part that is responsible for 'executive', or
higher-order functions.
In their paper, "Froglingo, a Programming Language empowered by a Total- Recursive-Equivalent Data Model' they have focused the concept of ease of use by proposing a mathematical definition for the concept of data models and by relating Froglingo with other programming language through the analysis of types and
higher-order functions.
They found reelin is a key player in the migration of new nerve cells to the neocortex, the part of the brain responsible for
higher-order functions, such as language and movement.
The insula helps with such
higher-order functions as self-awareness, while the ACC is believed to regulate heart rate.
