Some 500 Welsh place-names are examined by Lias, although Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is not included, which is probably just as well given the mathematical symbol it would carry and, anyway, the name was a publicity stunt in the 1860s designed to give the village the distinction of having the longest name of any railway station in Britain.
Lias' book is clearly a labour of love, but it is an academic work, not a glossary of terms.
The people she meets in Sweetbriar, Tennessee are warm and welcoming, but
Lia takes their kindness for granted and is often thoughtless in her actions and words.
