Meconium Aspiration Syndrome: Those newborns having respiratory distress along with meconium staining of vocal cords, umbilical cord or nails were diagnosed as cases of
meconium aspiration syndrome.
Our study did not show an increased risk of adverse perinatal outcome for teenage pregnancy except for
meconium aspiration syndrome and post maturity, both of which were more than twice as common in infants of teenagers as in those of older mothers.
Continuous fetal heart monitoring during labor and assurance of fetal wellbeing by acid-base assessment are important factors in reducing
meconium aspiration syndrome.8 We designed this study to explore if early cesarean section in meconium stained amniotic fluid improves the perinatal outcome.
Innovative neonatal ventilation and
meconium aspiration syndrome. Indian J Pediatr 2003; 70: 421-427.
(12) In our study feeding difficulties (75%), respiratory distress (25%),
meconium aspiration syndrome (13.3%), acute renal failure (8.3%), apnoea (4.2%) were the main clinical features observed.
TABLE 5 Shows that the incidence of perinatal asphyxia with APGAR score < 7 at 5 min and
meconium aspiration syndrome were similar in both groups.
Meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS): None of the infants enrolled in the study developed MAS.
CONCLUSION: The incidence of meconium staining of liquor was found to be 3.2% of all live births, with
meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS) occurring in 21.5% of these neonates.

In the present study, majority of cases of respiratory distress were due to
meconium aspiration syndrome followed by hyaline membrane disease.
Tribune News Network Doha Every year, three out of 1,000 births globally result in a baby being born with a serious condition called
meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS).
Conclusion: Thick Meconium stained amniotic fluid was associated with low APGAR score, high rate of emergency cesarean section and
meconium aspiration syndrome. Anemia during pregnancy, PIH and GDM were important risk factor associated with MAS.
