"Singapore announced today a ban on the domestic trade in elephant ivory," The
National Parks Board, a government agency, said in a statement that coincided with World Elephant Day.
The
National Parks Board said: "Sacks of pangolin scales and elephant ivory were found." The haul will now be destroyed.
"The seized pangolin scales and elephant ivory will be destroyed to prevent them from re-entering the market," the Singapore Customs, Immigration and Checkpoints Authority and the
National Parks Board confirmed.
It was led by the
National Parks Board of Singapore.
The AFN meeting held from May 13 to 15 in Malaysia provided an opportunity for implementers of the project on Improving Biodiversity Conservation of Wetlands and Migratory Waterbirds in the ASEAN Region, an initiative supported by Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund and Philippines-based ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), and led by the
National Parks Board of Singapore.
In Singapore, the
National Parks Board and the International Coastal Cleanup, a non-governmental organisation, started a two-year study in 2017 at nine coastal sites.
Singapore Customs and the
National Parks Board (NParks), which staged the joint operation that led to the haul, said the scales are likely from 17,000 pangolins, taking into account the weight of the various species.
As for green projects development and applying best practices, Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Affairs Authority, and Dr Leong Chee Chiew, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Commissioner of Parks & Recreation at the
National Parks Board.
In a joint statement, the Singapore Tourism Board, Urban Redevelopment Authority and
National Parks Board (NParks) said new retail concepts, attractions, entertainment and events will be introduced to the Tanglin, Somerset, Orchard and Dhoby Ghaut sub-precincts to strengthen Orchard Road's position as a lifestyle destination.
About a dozen bookings for the campsite have been cancelled, and the monthly-guided nature trail - run by the
National Parks Board - has also been cancelled till the site is re-opened.
Another technology, this time developed by NTU together with the
National Parks Board, is a nano-gel-a water-absorbent nano-molecule that has soil-conditioning capabilities.
