Persistent organic pollutants (POPs), are chemical substances that linger in the environment, bioaccumulate through the food chain, and pose a risk to human health and the environment, according to the United Nations Environment Programme, an international organization created to control the pollutants.
Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) accumulate in the fatty tissues of living organisms including humans, and are found at higher concentration in the food chain and are toxic to both humans and wildlife.
