In UNCTAD, the Caribbean supported a proposal for a sub-category on
Small Island Developing States to highlight their fragility in trade and development.
The PGA mentioned the work that her Office is doing to prepare the upcoming High-Level Week which will include the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, the Climate Action Summit, the midterm review of the SAMOA Pathway for
small island developing states; the High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage and the High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development.
"The 2019 Our Ocean Wealth Summit is a unique gathering of the voices of
small island developing states, gathering here in Cork in the understanding that global problems require global solutions.
It affects 85 per cent of least developed countries, 81 per cent of landlocked developing countries and 57 per cent of
small island developing states.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says Mauritius, like the other so called
Small Island Developing States, is under threat.
The event took place with the participation of the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and the
Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), the World Bank and the International Center for Transport Diplomacy (ICTD).
"The creation of the Technology Bank responds to the proposition that science, technology and innovation are essential elements to transform the economies of the LDCs, promote economic growth and enable countries to address their technology gaps and support their economic diversification and productive capacity building strategies,"Fekitamoeloa Katoa Utoikamanu, under secretary-general and high representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and
Small Island Developing States, said.

Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS).
George Town was selected as a pilot site for the 'Capacity Building for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) of Heritage Cities in South-east Asia (SEA) and
Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Pacific' project run by Unesco Office Jakarta and Unesco Apia Office in cooperation with GTWHI and International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoratiob of Cultural Property.
Most recently ADFD has financed development projects in Argentina, Cuba, and Ecuador as well as funded renewable energy ventures in the Caribbean
Small Island Developing States.
It is aimed at
small island developing states in the Commonwealth, and suggests policies and other measures to promote such development.
