JM: It's not entirely common, but there are quite a lot, especially in Canada which has a number of outstanding boys' choirs--for example St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto or Les Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal in Montreal, which are conspicuously better than in the United States.
Later on, both Stephen and his older brother Peter, now deceased, were associated with the well-known St. Michael's Choir School, next to Toronto's St.
Leslie, on the other hand, never formally studied the art of conducting and took a more circuitous route that had him follow his brother as a boy chorister at St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, while also studying piano, violin and organ.
