Listening to my comments in the podcast, I witness my connection to Patty as a cherished mentor and friend who "taught me everything." Patty's 1988 bequeathing of her YA column in
Wilson Library Bulletin to me was a career changer that ultimately led to my editorship of VOYA.
I have argued this since 1982 (see Loertscher, 1982)when the taxonomy for the school library program first appeared in
Wilson Library Bulletin. Since that time and across many changes in education, it seems that when we focus on the learner first--rather than on the needs of the organization--other elements of the program come into perspective.
