Recent versions of the app included a new advertising library that contained malicious code that delivered malware to Android devices, according to Russian-based antivirus tech giant Kaspersky, cited by
ZDNet.
ZDNet noted that the incident seems to be a case of developers accidentally using a malicious ad library.
Vulnerability research hub Crowdfense told
ZDNet that since the exploits were "interactionless," and the vulnerabilities worked on recent versions of iOS exploits, these could have been valued between $2 million and $4 million each, that is, the total value of the bugs is between $20 million and $24 million.
These new products share traits like compactness, lightweight, productivity enhancing features, and cater to the various needs of personal or business users,
ZDNet said.
A spokesperson for the app told
ZDNet: "We have taken action to close one of our servers to the public and begun alerting customers that could potentially be impacted."
The researchers told
ZDNet the hackers weren't opening the port themselves, which would have been a much more worrying attack.
