Based on an ADS simulation, the II[P.sub.2] requirement for a direct conversion receiver is approximately -5 dBm to meet a 10 percent PER 802.
Direct conversion receivers are widely used due to their low cost, especially in wireless local area network (WLAN) systems defined by IEEE 802.11a/b/g.
The OSM AM suppression specification (from GSM specification 05.05) sets the IP2 requirement for a direct conversion receiver. For the GSM900 band, the single blocker applied is -31 dBm, while the desired signal is at -99 dBm.
More importantly, however, large blocking signals also cause DC in the direct conversion receiver, whether on a spurious frequency or not.
Rebeiz, "A 1.9 GHz Double-balanced Sub-harmonic Mixer for Direct Conversion Receivers," 2001 IEEE Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits Symposium Digest, pp.
The low-IF (Intermediate Frequency) radio receiver architecture employed in this design, adapted from high-efficiency pager technology, offers lower power consumption and better immunity to interference than direct conversion receivers. Additionally, SubQore is optimized for physical compactness with just 10 components, enabling subcutaneous radios to be the size of a button using SoC technology.
